Elizabethans

Is anyone else joining in Callieach's  new challenge:
And then I had an idea. We've all got old photos lying around....fading 35mm snaps, instant Polaroids, old family black and whites....which we can't backblip because we haven't a clue when they were taken.
What if we could post them here, with the associated stories/memories, once a week....re-photographing if necessary, to get round the 'taken today' rule?

Well this photo usually causes much hilarity and confusion when it is perused. Can you guess what we were doing?  Obviously we are preparing for the  arrival of Queen Elizabeth 1 to Kenilworth Castle in 1575!  Taken around the late 80s (1980s!) during a fairly gruelling week when hordes of over-excited children from all over Warwickshire were bussed in to take part in a Living hIstory event in the ruins of the castle. (As one friend sagely remarked, I prefer my history dead). We all dressed up and did Elizabethan type things, including a lot of dodgy authentic Elizabethan-speak, and the day concluded with a visit by Her Majesty on a white horse and we all danced!

We argue over what we were representing in this photo! I think I was a visiting person, (taking notes for a magazine), and Himself was an itinerant potter. He thinks we were master and mistress apothecary but I think that was another year for I remember black robes and a child being sick when he ate the goose grease ointment rather than apply it on an affected area (he had been told not to of course!)

Lovely day here - the walkers have been up mountains.

Edit: oops, as usual I didn't read the rules and didn't know that the challenge couldn't go ahead, ah well!
