James III, King of Scots ...

... is buried in this tomb along with his wife Margaret of Denmark. It was the non-payment of Margaret’s dowry which led to the annexation of the Orkney and Shetland Islands to Scotland. James was killed in 1488 in somewhat mysterious circumstances after the Battle of Sauchieburn. Margaret had died a couple of years before. They were interred at Cambuskenneth Abbey. Queen Victoria paid for this sarcophagus which lies behind railings in the Abbey grounds.

I was walking over by the Abbey this afternoon. The grounds are open again for the season. A lot less sunny than yesterday but I do think the temperature is rising slightly.
