Mount Shasta

Taken from just south of the Oregon border. Mount Shasta is a great prominence in this area. Usually this sleeping volcano is draped in clouds, but it was as clear as a bell the day I passed by.

It is the southern most mountain in the Cascade range. At 14,180 feet, it is the 5th tallest mountain in the state of California. It has intermittent eruptions, the last about 200-300 years ago. It is considered a Native American treasure and has many stories and mysteries in the lore of locals.

The extra is from the sidewalk pavement at the view point turnout.
