Wanderings & Witterings

Diaspora

Arrived in Perth this afternoon for a couple of days away. Decided to take a short trip up to Stanley to visit the historic and restored Stanley Mills, but got an extra bonus when I found out the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry was on display there. The display only opened there a few days ago and runs until the end of June before its next port of call.

Started in 2012 and completed in 2014, the tapestry consists of over 300 embroidered panels made by more than 30 different communities worldwide, each panel celebrating Scottish culture, achievements, etc as they have travelled the globe. The craftsmanship (and craftswomanship?) was remarkable.
