Sitting Tenant

We met the agent at the new house today and she handed over the keys. Two minutes after she left, if that, the cat sauntered in.

We knew about the cat, which belonged to an old couple next door who are now in a care home. The cat seems to have been left to its own devices. The previous tenants told us this on the day that we viewed the house and said that it appeared to be trying to adopt them. At the time they seemed to be trying to keep it out of the house but today it seemed very much at home. There is evidence outside that they have been feeding it.

It's a nice cat and I would be very happy to let it adopt us but worry that if we feed it we become responsible for finding it care when we go away in the van. It wouldn't be right to let it settle and then be abandoned again.

What to do? I don't like the idea of it being homeless but don't feel we can offer it a proper home.

You know what's going to happen, don't you? It will be ruling the roost in a few days.

It really does not like Nell...

Tonight I am cooking in a real kitchen, on a real stove and using water ad lib. What a novel experience.

Even more novel is the experience of sitting on a sofa... with a television set in front of us. We will be taking that down to the used furniture exchange asap!
