A Little Nightwork

When I heard that a level crossing was to be upgraded overnight I decided to go along and try some night photography. It was very interesting. The workers were lifting and moving sections of the tracks out of the way and digging up the area. The main shot shows the two diggers side by side. The front one was involved with moving the tracks, while the rear one was digging up earth and loading it onto a truck.

The first extra shot shows a section of the track lifted above the man’s knee level. Beyond a load of spoil is dumped in the truck. In the second extra shot you can see part of the machine that was dealing with the tracks. It was mostly obscured behind a large truck and trailer that appeared to be acting as a barrier between the road and the worksite.

I could have watched for a long time, but it was perishing cold.  I left wondering if they’d get it done in time for the TranzAlpine Express tomorrow morning.
