Turning 98

I compressed the usual Saturday morning activities as we were due at Direlton for lunch to mark my mother’s 98th birthday which falls on Sunday.

My brother and his wife and their 2 sons had come up from Reading /Bristol to join us. We ( my wife and I and our son) were just missing our daughter and her fiancée who had an engagement in Lancaster which prevented them getting north.

We had a lovely lunch - in the Open Arns where just over 65 years ago my parents had their wedding reception. As a treat my mother allowed herself a dessert to finish off the meal.

Afterwards we headed back to her home for some fizz and the chocolate cake she had baked for the occasion (see extra).
