On the Trail

After a very comfortable overnight stay in Bakewell, we took a short drive to Hassop to hire some bikes. From here we picked up the Monsal Trail, a former railway line and anow a cycleway. We had a great pedal up the 8 miles of the route and then back again just avoiding the incoming rain. The route includes several tunnels and a beautiful viaduct and the scenery is gorgeous. We really enjoyed ourselves although having not been on bikes for a while, our saddles are a bit sore! More photos here.

We then drove on for a quick stop at Sutton Scarsdale Hall, a ruined Georgian mansion. You can usually walk on through it but unfortunately it's currently surrounded by metal fencing whilst the building is made safe by English Heritage. Still good to see it though as we've noticed it from the M1 in passing.

Then it was on home. A good couple of days.
