Walking to the Start

We were back in the Lake District today to orienteer on Lingmoor Fell.  The weather was not as good as yesterday, hence the 'Gothic' blip of the fell.

To reach the start we had to climb to the top of the fell, which took us about 40 minutes of steep gradient, so we were well warmed up in readiness for the off! It's a pity the weather was poor because the view from the start would have been stunning on a clear day.  I really enjoyed the terrain and my run, and the Herdies,  but it was a long way today and my knees were burning coming down the slope in to the final controls in the woodland.  Hence the result:  76th out of 114!  If you take out all the men, youngsters and younger women, I would have been 12th, ha hah.  Tony had another excellent run to add to his second placing yesterday, finishing 5th on his course out of 70 competitors!

Tony was on the jury today so it was a pleasant surprise to be given a parking space in the farmyard next to assembly, a bonus because many folks had to park some distance away due to saturated fields.  I took a few photos until his duty was over and then we drove home, stopping for a cuppa at the Goat Gap Cafe.  We really must have a meal there one day as the food is good, a big improvement on the Little Chef it replaced.
