War and peace - MM221

No, we're not at war, although a feeling that we're really at peace seems to fade more and more. This is one of the M4 Sherman tanks that came with our liberators and was restored and put here to remember the heavy fighting and commemorate those who fought and those who gave their life for our freedom. Woensdrecht was liberated in Oct 1944 after a horrible battle, the Battle of Woensdrecht, but it would take another half year before the whole of The Netherlands was freed, we'll celebrate and commemorate 73 years of freedom on May 5, after commemorating the dead on May 4. The estate on which we live which used to be the meadows and fields where the battle was held has streets named after our Canadian liberators.

Today's MonoMonday theme is contrast and I thought the tank appearing through the young shimmering green of Spring in the countryside was a telling contrast of war and peace. With thanks to Chantler63 for hosting MonoMonday this month.

Thanks so much for your kind comments, stars and even a fave for yesterday's impressionist blossoms and the AT146 results
