HMS Devastation

Today we set sail for France (again). We went as foot passengers and had just enough time to take this picture of the HMS Devastation (1871-1908), that is set into a wall at Portsmouth where she was built.

The Devastation class were the first British ocean going warships not to be fitted with masts for sails and have their armaments mounted in turrets above the hull, and as such were the warships from which all other major vessels are descended.
