Economy Candy

A day for inadvertently seeing some sights in New York that are less often visited by tourists. First up was Astoria, to get the bus to La Guardia to pick up our hire car (we don’t need it until tomorrow now but the hire company wanted to charge us more to hang onto it for us for another day.) With the car parked up at the Hotel we were then off to the Tenement Museum for the tour we booked yesterday and then it was round the corner (a different corner to Katz’s) to the excellent Economy Candy to pick up supplies for the game. Unfortunately it was raining steadily by the time we got to Yankees Stadium but fortunately our seats were (largely) under cover. We set ourselves up with a couple of Jersey Mike’s Subs as our concession snack of choice and settled in to enjoy the game – a really good one even if we were extremely cold by the end of it. The Yankees won by 11 to 4 and Didi Gregorious scored two Home Runs. We then rounded the day off not with the neighborhood tacos we had planned but with a trip to the Brooklyn Car Pound – we parked the hire car too close to a fire hydrant and it got towed so we had to go and retrieve it…
