The Palm and the Burj Arabe

Thursday
Back in the air again today, on to our final destination for the vacation - Sri Lanka. Our flight, on Emirates again, was scheduled to take off at about 10am, but unfortunately we were delayed. Initially they said they were having a problem with the fuel gauge, then when they thought they’d fixed it, they announced that six passengers had failed to show up, so they had to make sure their luggage wasn’t on board, then they realized the original problem wasn’t yet fixed, so we had to wait some more time while the mechanics continued their work. Eventually, however, we did take off - about one and a half hours late. Sri Lanka time is another 1 1/2 hours  in advance of Dubai, so on top of a 4 1/2 hour flight, the sun was going down by the time we reached Colombo. It took us a little while to go through immigration and get our bags, but eventually we were though, and our driver Atley was waiting for us to take us to our hotel/guest house, which as the crow flies wasn’t very far, but there is a lagoon in the way, so I think it probably took us the best part of an hour. Laura is flying overnight from Kuwait and arrives early in the morning, so Atley will return to the airport in the morning to pick her up. The guest house served us dinner, then afterwards Roger decided to make use of the pool. The only photograph I took today was this shot of the Palm as we were leaving Dubai.
