Sandham Memorial Chapel

Stanley Spencer’s “Holy Box”. He planned it whilst recovering from malaria in Salonica in 1918, inspired by Giotti’s Arena Chapel in Padua.

Completed in 1926, it’s exterior is plain. Internally, it is something special.

We heard our first blackcap of the year here, as we sat in the orchard. Later, we saw our first wheatears. The Spring migration must now be in full swing.
