Wound up in Wexford

Franz Joseph Glacier

Back blipped on 22nd April

We had just a short drive from our motel to reach the start of the walk to the glacier.  It was quite misty (see extra), but not raining.  A great walk, at first through rainforest, where we saw lovely flitting tomtits, though I was totally unable to persuade any of them to remain still for long enough to capture them in a
photo.  Then through the more bleak landscape left by the retreating glacier, where the ice had worn the rocks into fascinating shapes (see 2nd extra).

As we walked back out to the car, the sun came out on the glacier.

In the afternoon we drove through rain to Fox Glacier, hoping to visit Lake Mathieson, where we were told great reflections were to be found.  But the rain got worse and in the end, we just drove back to our motel, and spent the afternoon relaxing and listening to the rain.  I tried to catch up with Blip, but the internet connection was awful.
