Here and Now

Patriotism

“The noblest sacrifice a man can make is his life for the liberties of the people.” (Engraved on civil war monument, not attributed, but might have been Abraham Lincoln).

“Generosity is what’s left of you after you realize that there’s no such thing as a self.”

“Everytime I give something away, what comes back to me is freedom.”

Latter quotes by Byron Katie, A Mind at Home with Itself. Agree with the premise of non-judgement, but not endeared with the book.

I wonder what individual soldiers thought, felt, hoped for as they went off to various wars.

Soldiers sacrificed. Their families did too. All politics aside on my journal. I am very grateful every day to enjoy freedom and wish it for others.
