Life's Little Moments

The Mulberry Tree

Today's pick was taken at High Island in Texas at a huge mulberry tree that was filled with birds.  In fact, Anni dubbed it "the bird tree".  It was alive with tanagers, orioles, vireos, buntings, grosbeaks and warblers, and it was difficult to know where to point your lens at any given moment.  I'm not sure this is my best photo today, but it's definitely one that will serve as a memory keeper for me.  The birds are Summer Tanagers, a species that isn't found in the northeast US where I live.  The male, below, has a beak full of mulberry while the female, above, seems to be looking on with disapproval.  Or maybe that look is just my imagination...

After spending 4 hours at High Island, we took a quick break for lunch and then headed to the beach where we spent many more hours watching pelicans, terns, gulls, godwits, sanderlings, plovers, oystercatchers, skimmers and all sorts of other interesting birds.

All in all, I'd rate today as a 10, in every respect.   We were all sad to have to say goodbye to Wade (Sefferdog) and Jen tonight - they have to return to Florida earlier than expected and will be sorely missed.

No comments tonight as it's late and we've an early start in the morning.
