Oaxaca Monte Albán

We visited the incomparable Monte Albán today. While smaller than the pyramid ruins near Mexico City, this site is spectacular in its own right and much less crowded than its more famous cousin. Insider knowledge (thanks Alaska) allowed us to get the shuttle up and back, with a three hour exploration window, for 50 pesos each. Add the 70 peso per person entry fee and we were still well entertained for a bit over $10usd. The beers at the café after cost almost that! This four-photo panorama is from the highest point on the North Platform, looking to the taller South Platform and taking in everything in-between. That was another good thing about these ruins as opposed to others we have visited elsewhere, we were allowed to ascend many of the pyramids, just the way the former residents did more than 2,500 years ago.

This was another one of those "tough to choose days" when it comes to photographs. Not only was I able to capture good shots at Monte Albán, but we also walked to the Templo de Santo Domingo from the other day and watched three different weddings exit to much fanfare, dancing, music, and celebration. I think I could have filled an entire week’s journal just with images from these two places.
