Lovely old East Dean on an overcast afternoon. We were taking an afternoon tea picnic up to the trundle to look at the far reaching 180 degree  views. It opens the mind after living in town, to see a distant horizon.

East Dean is in a valley in the South Downs, between Upwaltham and Singleton. It's population is only just over 200.  The village pond here is thought to be the source of the winterbourne Lavant, winterbourne being the old name for a river that only flows in winter. It's still flowing at the end of April.
