The colours of Orkney

Spent most of today in and around Kirkwall. First thing it was the Farmers' Market then a wee trip to the Hume Sweet Hume shop. More of this later in the week.

Then a trip up Wideford Hill to get the views north, south, east and west. This is looking north with a wee tug boat coming in. You can see the island of Rousay and also I think Wyre. Southwards you can see down to South Ronaldsay and the north of Scotland (extra which I seem to have added twice...)

After this a walk along Scapa beach and back into town for lunch, more wandering and a cup of tea. Then it was time to get aboard the afternoon sailing for Westray, a quick drive up from the ferry terminal and here we are in a truly lovely cottage. Looking forward to being at anchor here in Pierowall for the next week.

As always the colours of Orkney are stunning and we have been spoiled by beautiful sunshine all day. The ferry crossing was a mini-cruise past the isles and hardly a breath of wind. Lucky us!
