Spring sunshine, Strathclyde Campus

The Art Deco building in the background clad in glass and black vitrolite, is the former 'Glasgow Herald' Building in Albion Street. It was turned into around 150 executive flats in 2005, retaining the continuous expanses of glazing to the façade and utilising the high floor-to-ceiling heights to provide a new take on ‘loft style’ living. It was built in 1936 as flagship premises for newspaper production and was originally four-storeyed, with the  roof extension added in 1988. Dozens of vans used to accumulate in a car park outside around 4pm to access the underground loading bays and whisk the Evening Times away to stands, railways stations and newsagents in the city. The basement is now underground parking for residents and the car park has become this tranquil green space.
