St. Mary's Mill near Chalford

After my shopping trip to Gloucester I drove up the Golden Valley nearly as far as Chalford to visit St. Mary's Mill. I have been organising a small promotional video for the Stroudwater Textile Trust and we are going to film some scenes on Saturday when the trust opens the basement of the mill building on the left for the public to view inside. There will also be an artist's exhibition in the same space, as part of the Stroud 'Open Studios' arranged by Stroud Valleys Artspace.

Today I wanted to look for possible views of the exterior and will send a few pictures to R., who will be using her camera to film the sequences and then edit the film. It has been ages since I helped to actually create and produce a film so I'm covering all the angles, so to speak.

There are a couple of working machines in the basement, although the water wheel which is still in situ doesn't actually work anymore (see an extra Blip link below). The other four floors of the building are used by several different companies. It is a fantastic space. The whole property is still owned by the family which live in the original Manor House on the other side of the yard, and they only allow it to be opened to the public on a couple of days each year. I may well be blipping another scene from here on Saturday.
