Spring in the mountains .....

.... and Spring in the garden too.

My heart misses a beat when I see blips from friends in the Alps at this time of year, as the snowline rises and a profusion of flowers erupts in the meadows and mountains.  One of the most unforgettable is the Spring Gentian, Gentiana verna, smaller than the Trumpet Gentian and a little bit more of a challenge to grow in lowland Britain.  They love the sunshine but dislike prolonged drought, in the mountains they enjoy regular rain and often grow in wet flushes.

A super day for outdoor jobs.  Ground prepared for more sweet peas that are ready for planting out, more seedlings potted up, digging and planting on the allotment plus a trip to the garden centre to try out benches for our shady corner.

Time for a sit down :-)
