Tortola Day2

Not a great night's sleep, but still up at 6am as so much to do. Most of the day spent on logistics at the British Virgin Islands Red Cross offices in Road Town, getting to know the staff and checking kit, advising what to keep repair and dispose of.
I spent a goodly while outdoors putting some urban emergency scenarios together. As I did the air was alive with flutterbees, this one was fab.

But then the day took a turn that was impossible to capture for blip. An invite to join the evening training session for VISAR - the Virgin Islands Search And Rescue - think adrenaline fueled coastguard.
I'm old enough and wise enough know and appreciate that there was some (very) good natured showing the Brit Mountain Guide "their world", but wow. Fortunately I don't scare easily and love spending time with dedicated people who are good at what the do. Face fulls of waves was a refreshing bonus.....
An exhilarating 50knotts blast over to Peter Island, bouncing and crashing across the waves, the fast response rib expertly handled and amazingly powerful yet agile. Then some rescue scenarios - I'm sure you can guess who got to be the casualty - strapped to a spinal board and loaded onto the boat. An equally thrilling ride back to base as the sun rapidly set.

Then a briefing beer, banter and bonhomie.
Great day.
