Love is in the air

A trip to Northumberland is not complete without a visit to the Farne Islands. Billy Shiel’s boat trips are legendary and I received good advice on which island to visit. Today it was Staple island which is rockier than Inner Farne, which I have visited before but outside the Puffin season.

The nesting season has been affected by the weather this year with nesting being about three weeks later than usual. Despite enjoying seeing the other nesting birds the Puffins won the contest for today’s blip. I took the first boat out which meant there were fewer people on the island to disturb the birds. That said these Puffins were sat by the steps onto the island and were unconcerned about the lenses and binoculars turned in their direction.

What a way to end our stay.
