Today we ended up taking a leisurely tour around North Kent, with some brief stops at RSPB reserves on the Isle of Grain, before ending up on the River Medway shore at Upnor.

While lapping up the sun, cooled by a gentle breeze,  we watched a largish orange and blue vessel weave its way through the sailing yachts before coming to a stop where it was joined by an in-shore inflateable which off-loaded some of the crew and what looked like a stretcher.  The inflateable headed back to shore and a waiting ambulance.  There was no apparent sense of urgency, so hopefully the casualty was not badly hurt or seriously ill.

The RNLI lifeboat "George And Ivy Swanson" is based at Sheerness in an old naval dockyard, and covers the River Thames and River Medway estuaries. Along with their colleagues around the coast of Britain, this volunteer service saves many lives every year - thank you!
