Towards the Sahara

Our journey of 6 hours passed through the most dramatic landscapes of canyons and valleys. This is just a little oasis beside the low flowing river....well that was this afternoon.......

This evening we were driven out in 4x4s across the desert to see the sunset.... we arrived...no likelihood of a sunset..... lightening flashes...darkness falls and from nowhere a sandstorm envelops us all. We struggle across the dunes back to a bar where we and many others sit until the local drivers decide it is safe to drive. For half an hour we drive across the desert with the sand blowing strongly. We make the tarmac road just before the heavens open and roads flood within minutes. We drive very slowly back to our hotel none the worse for our adventure, in fact we decided it was a lot more exciting than a sunset!.
