New Worlds To Conquer
I admit I was sceptical at first about the idea of VR. But a friend convinced me that it was really worth a shot. And so I bought a kit.
And it is miles better than I thought it would be. Kilometers even.
You do forget that you're wearing this mask.
Your reality is what you see. And the things you can see are awesome. On my first attempt, I was using the Google World app and it dumped me on the very edge of Half Dome Mountain. I promise you that my vertigo is every bit as powerful in VR as in RL*. It was jaw dropping. As was watching an eclipse from space (right in front of you is the earth and everywhere else you look is just stars).
And if i sound even more like a geeky nerd, it's because this thing is really THAT good.
I "flew" down the Isar (the river that tuns through München) and it was spectacular. My brain tells me that I'm flying even though I *KNOW* I'm in my office at home.
This was a good way to spend some of our latest Feiertag. Ascension Day is holiday here, y'see. And because it's a Feiertag, the weather decided to be rubbish. We woke up to pouring rain. A glorious excuse to potter around the house, or in my case to fly from the Alps to München.
And yes, I know I need a shave and haircut. They can wait though, it may be time to fly along through Glen Coe. Or to explore Singapore. Or Hong Kong. Or maybe even Wellington.
I have much to see.
