Life in a Northern Town

Burano

We woke to all of life passing us by on the Grand Canal and spent an hour marvelling at this unique place. My mum was struggling to walk far so we took the 14 Vaporetto to Burano - what a good decision that was. A leisurely sail across the lagoon with spectacular views back to St Mark's (see extras), then a sudden recovery when she saw all the coloured houses, shops and restaurants.

We had a couple of lovely hours in the sunshine then cruised back again - and all included in the price of a 48 hour Vaporetto pass - I worked out we saved over 100 euros with those passes.

In the evening we had another stroll around St Mark's Square, I caught some lovely sunlight over the basilica (see extras again) and I introduced my mother to the joys of the Hard Rock Cafe overlooking one of the main gondola stations. This time we were wise to the ploys of the young men selling pigeon food, but amused ourselves watching everyone else get conned out of their Euros.

We slept well.....
