Thank You For the Days ..

Dunbar in Sunshine

It was wet this morning, and dull. No prospect of gardening, we thought, and we set off to do some cake-eating and then some shopping.

TM decided he'd like to go home via Dunbar - where he sometimes went on holiday as a child.

Once there, the day began to improve.  The sky was blue, the clouds fluffy and the sea calm.  It was warm enough to eat our picnic on the wall of the old harbour. Afterwards we spent ages exploring the many back lanes and alleys leading down to the shore.

Dunbar has two harbours, a ruined fort and a ruined castle, and in days of long ago was both an important defensive place - the castle was one of the places that Cromwell knocked about a bit - and a fishing port.

The extra is an old warehouse, beautifully restored and still used by the fishermen, and the main picture is one of the inns, named for the lifeboatmen of the town.
