Bamburgh Thrift

We chose Bamburgh today for our walk, it was cloudy this morning and cold in the much stronger breeze but, it cleared just before lunchtime and turned into a beautiful blue sky day.

I’ve opted for a wild flower focus today - Thrift Maritima with the Lindisfarne Peninsula in the back ground.

On the dunes - a flower/ seed head that I don’t know  - it’s got quite a soft stem. I wondered if it was a parasitic plant.  I now wonder if they are the spore bearing stems of the Horsetail.

And finally this amazing field full of pink campion.  I’ve never seen anything like it.  Is it a natural but freak result of set aside or has the field been seeded with the plant.  I took a different version that had Bamburgh Castle in the background, but as it was taken against the light it’s not worked quite as well.
