Hero

This is Laura. She is a hero.
This photo was taken a few minutes after she had finished running so forgive the lack of a smile.

Laura, was to have run in this years New York Marathon in memory of her Mum who died 13 years ago from breast cancer in our local Hospice in Blackpool but due to Superstorm Sandy those dreams were shattered earlier this week when her flights were canceled and she couldn't get an alternative.

She had raised in excess of £2000.00 and felt she shouldn't keep it without doing a marathon so today after only a few days to sort out she did just that and ran the marathon distance in the worst conditions she could have had, the Great British weather threw nearly everything at her but she did complete it in just over 5 hours .

I cycled the last 16 miles to help keep her company, raise spirits and provide some safety assistance, along with others who ran or cycled part of the way.

It's an amazing achievement to complete any marathon but this was extraordinary given the weather and the fact Laura did it on her own.
