Escape!

The lengths some people will go to just to avoid a royal wedding... all the way across the North Sea (and Jutland too).

I think the last time I was in Copenhagen was 2001, and that was just an overnight stop on the way to Vilnius. It was a regular stopover in the 90s if travel plans occasionally required it, and I remember a conference here in 1993 or ’94.

I have an Airbnb place this time, just 10 minutes walk from the Central Station and so it’s really convenient for the airport train (which didn’t exist last time I was here).

By coincidence, I can see the Radisson Blu Royal from here - it was my favourite hotel in the city if the budget permitted. It is listed as a historic building in my guide book for its “cutting edge” 1960s design.

By the time I arrived (close to 7pm local time) I only had time for a walk around in search of cash, food and a Blip. The Blip is the Rådhuset (City Hall). The Extras are the entrance to the Tivoli Gardens and the pizza place (Vapiano - aye, not very Viking) I fell into for food. Great for people watching and overlooking the Tivoli Gardens.
