Thursday Collage ....

I took a lot more pictures today .... so I was able to put together a collage instead of participating in Abstract Thursday.

Pictured are: Upper left - Sunny Chipmunk; Bottom left - Blue Jay; Upper right - Gray Catbird; Bottom right corner - Eastern Gray Squirrel; Middle bottom - Brown-headed Cowbird. 

The Brown-headed cowbird is NOT one of my favorite birds as it has some very bad nesting habits.  The female will lay her eggs in the nests of other (usually smaller!) unsuspecting birds ..... forcing the "surrogate" bird to hatch and then raise the much larger cowbird fledglings. Nasty habit!

But the Gray Catbird has out foxed the cowbird ..... it will usually recognize the impostor eggs and quite literally kick the eggs out of the nest before they hatch!!! Smart birds!!
