Another of Tryfan’s steamy blips

A very busy day on the Kent and East Sussex Railway. It was one of our 1940s Event Weekend with people dressed up ion costumes of the time both military and civilian, stations dressed of the time, with appropriate props to complete the scene. At Bodiam and Tenterden music of the era entertained visitors and a Spitfire flew over Tenterden on each day.

The trains were packed, the engines looked resplendent; it seemed everyone was having a good time. We operated our busiest timetable, the Gold, with 3 trains operating 8 return trips. I was working the Wittersham Road signalbox which was busy but straightforward as I was not crossing trains there. I estimated I was up and down the signalbox steps over 40 tines during the day, walking 5km or more during the day.

Trains were passing through every 15 minutes or so. 6 people boarded a train from the station (a record never to be broken!), many people visited the platform to watch the trains and I invited them into the box to see how things worked. We also had a vintage sports (unconnected with our event) car rally stopping at the station to find an answer to one of their questions.
