My Husband the Scrubber

No sooner had my friend Anne told me about a plaque appearing on the pavement outside a house opposite our old castle commemorating the birthplace of a Gordon Highlander awarded a VC in WWI, than His Lordship had to find it and photograph it.
Unfortunately it has been sited under a lime tree in whose branches the local collared doves perch to relieve themselves. The result is that the stone was covered in cement like droppings making it hard to get a good picture.

Fortunately my school friend Helen was at home nearby and she kindly lent us a bucket of water and a brush to try and clean it. As His Lordship scrubbed with might and main, a rebel and incontinent bird sealed his new jacket’s fate by depositing two large dollops of pooh on it. So now we are not only cleaning the stone, but also the jacket.

We learned from the present householder that next week there is to be a civic inauguration of the plaque with the Lord Provost and high ‘heid yins’ of the Gordon Highlanders present, and bagpipes to boot. Watch this space!

Now I’m wondering if I should ask for a plaque to be inset into the pavement outside our old castle and reading-
