Now, as I see it......

The Fourth Plinth

Tonight we are being tourists and overnighting in London in what appears to be a cupboard. I think it's called a 'Capsule Hotel' and it's in a great position about two minutes walk from Westminster Abbey, and it is very new and very comfortable, but it's the smallest hotel room I have ever seen. It's a good job I hadn't brought a cat to swing. We had a late lunch in a favourite restaurant near Covent Garden and then had a wander around the Whitehall area (spotting an aeroplane parked outside 10 Downing Street - apparently something to do with the 100th anniversary of the RAF) and went to see the latest sculpture on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. It is a recreation of Lamassu, a winged deity, which guarded the Nergal Gate at the entrance to the ancient Assyrian city of Nineveh near modern day Mosul in Iraq from c700 bc until 2015 when it was destroyed by ISIS. The artist Michael Rakowitz has recreated it out of empty date syrup cans to represent a once renowned industry decimated by the Iraq wars.

Currently back in the cupboard, sorry room, to freshen up before going out. We won't be late as W has an early start in the morning.

Edit: photo of the cupboard/room added as an extra!
