Spring Has Sprung

It has been one of those ordinary days today, a bit of gardening, a trip to the hairdresser for an overdue haircut, a trip to Homebase via the tip to get rid of garden waste.

However, there was happiness to be found in this mundane day.  Like, watching the birds together in the garden and having a chat when B popped round for a cup of tea mid-morning, the blackbirds following us around the garden looking for food amongst the turned over soil, and just how amazing the roadside verges and countryside is at the moment.  Whilst driving to the tip it was noticeable just how lush and verdant it all looks. The hawthorn blossom is so abundant this year, and the hedgerows look like they’ve been coated in snow…just beautiful.

So, in celebration of Spring I took a photo of one of the fronds of my Hart’s Tongue Fern unfurling, and M remarked that it reminded him of a line in the poem ‘Spring’ by Gerard Manley Hopkins
“Nothing is so beautiful as Spring
When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush…”
