A North Shore Day Trip

It was such a beautiful day that we decided to jump in the car and take a trip to the North Shore.  Our first stop was Nahant, where we admired the view of Boston from across the water.  (One of Nahant's claims to fame is that apparently the first game of lawn tennis to be played in the United States took place here in 1874.) Then we meandered over to Essex for a delicious fried clam lunch from Woodman's which we enjoyed at a picnic table next to a salt marsh.  Our last port of call was Gloucester -- the oldest fishing port in America.  Coming back to Boston, we were surprised at how heavy the traffic was -- we suspect it's the start of the Memorial Day Weekend congestion.
