Kinderdijk

On the last full day of our holiday in the Netherlands MrsDroog and I visited Kinderdijk.

We caught a watertaxi from the SS Rotterdam and then a riverbed to Kinderdijk.

There are 19 windmills on the site and they were built to drain excess water from the land: today, there are two new pumping stations. Each station has three archimedes screws, each screw able to do the work of 10 windmills. The windmills can still be used in an emergency.

It's a beautiful place, especially in the lovely weather we have today.
