Climbing Pierre de Ronsard rose

As a change from the many individual roses so popular with blippers, I went for a rose display today to be slightly different. This photo was taken in a spectacular private garden at Mt. Barker.

The pink Pierre de Ronsard is a very healthy rose with lush deep glossy green foliage and grows to approximately 3 metres high. It needs an arch to support it and the blooms tend to all hang downwards.

If you are interested to know about its name, it was named in honour of a Frenchman who lived in England. Pierre de Ronsard (1524 - 1585) was a poet in the court of Mary Queen of Scots, and was a very keen gardener.

This rose is one of the very best roses ever! The large full blooms vary from the softest blush to a full mid pink. Vigorous growth habit, lightly scented and has excellent disease resistance.

It grows perfectly well in our warm Mediterranean climate and absolutely flourishes in the slightly cooler areas such as Mt. Barker on the far side of the Adelaide hills. See it better in LARGE.

The only other rose I have blipped was a pink rose by our garden gate, back on October 10th.
