Bamboo and Periwinkle

Visited the most lovely open garden today, Meon Orchard in Hampshire. Lots of interest including some amazing eucalypts which we hadn't seen before. At 40ft, too big to do justice in a photograph!

But I liked this strange combination of Bamboo, native to the Asia-Pacific area and parts of the Americas, and the low growing Periwinkle [probably vinca major here] native to Europe and parts of Asia and Africa. Europe has no native bamboo although the numbers we see them in makes it hard to believe we don't have a home grown one.

With the sunshine encouraging people to turn out, it was more like a garden party than an open day, with people chatting and sharing shady corners, generally friendly and smiling. The cakes were also delicious!
