Not waxing but waning

Waning gibbous moon
On her unceasing journey
From darkness to light.

Blip can be so educational - photographing this made me look up the phases of the moon and now I know what waxing and waning are and have learnt the wonderful new word "gibbous" . Look here for more info, but basically waning is when the moon is on it's way from full moon to new moon - ie when it's getting smaller), and waxing is when it's on it's way from new moon back to full moon (ie. getting bigger). Gibbous is the state half way between full and half moon (which is called quarter - obviously).

If you are in the southern hemisphere, you should stand on your head and look at this, because to you it should be a waxing gibbous moon.

Of course all you clever blippers knew all this already didn't you?
