Caen Hill Locks, Devizes

The locks are a flight of locks on the 29 on the Kennet and Avon Canal, between Rowde and Devizes in Wiltshire. The 29 locks have a rise of 237 feet in 2 miles or a 1 in 44 gradient. D. walked to the top of the flight and I jumped on the bus again and met him to walk back to the campsite where we are staying. This was taken almost half way up!
The locks are mainly fed by Claverton Pumping Station, which pumps the 5,000 million gallons of water the 28km to the top, Over night one of the local "clowns" had opened the paddles on one of the gates in the town...resulting in too much water, and therefore some locks were overflowing.
The extra photos were of a lock nearer the top of he flight, and also the local heron isn't bothered by the constant stream of boats, there must be  a plentiful supply of fish>
