Alive

On Saturday I bought The New European for the first time.

I’d read something about two of the biggest supermarket chains (Asda and Morrisons) refusing to sell it because it’s “too political”. Of course they happily sell the right wing hate newspapers which promoted Brexit.

It turns out the editor-at-large (whatever that means) is Alastair Campbell, who was ex Prime Minister Tony Blair’s reviled spin doctor. However, I read his column as our views on Brexit are identical.

In it he mentions the recent death from a brain tumour of Tessa Jowell, who was a minister in Blair’s government. The reason for the mention was to inform readers about the pleasure she got in her final weeks from this song...

The guitarist and lead singer in Skipinnish is our Gaelic tutor, Norrie McIver. It was our weekly class tonight, and he had us singing in Gaelic for the first time.

I’d kept the newspaper to give to him tonight, but needless to say it’s still lying strategically placed by the front door where I couldn’t possibly miss it on the way out.
