Workington

Coast 2 Coast, Day One: Workington to Greystoke. Our longest days cycle, at about 48 miles - and harder than anticipated because some diversions linked us up early with the steeper Whitehaven-starting option and had us going up some fairly tough hills in the forest round the Whinlatter Pass. Plus later on where we thought we had to decide between the bank up to Castlerigg stone circle or an easier option - I was keen on the stones but Beck was starting to flag - there was a bridge out or something and we had no choice but to go the hard way. The stones are cool though - and the setting is spectacular. Also on the plus side we were staying in a very posh guest house in the grounds of Tarzan's castle and eating in a very nice pub called the Boot and Shoe...
