Day 6 The Hebrides

Day 6

Oh another spectacular day. The sea mist had come in over night and our washing was wetter than when we went to bed, so it was strapped to the back of the panniers again.

We had a long day ahead with some sight seeing too to eat up the hours. So lights on and togged up as it was a bit chilly in the mist we set of at 8.

We stopped at a wee black house bothy where we chatted to the couple who had stayed there. They let us poke our heads in and have a look, pretty cool place to spend the night. First stop was the Black House museum. Only 2 houses were open to visitors but the one which was set out pretty much as the lady left it when she left in the 1970s was very interesting. A man was using the weaving loom and was happy to answer all my questions. The video about weaving in the hut next door was good too. The tea and scone in the cafe were very welcome. There was a commercial mill just down the road, which I managed to have a sneaky peek through the open door. Not as interesting as the man in the museum.
.
Then on to the Dan Carloway Broch which was spectacularly preserved. Mr PB clambered all over it, but it was too high and scary for me! Then onto the Callanish Standing Stones. I have never been to such a fantastic stone circle. Wow! I saw a young couple taking pictures with DSLRs and asked one to take our picture, love this picture of us. I hope the one I took for them was as good.

Touristy stuff done we took to the road. The sun had come out and we took our time to climb back over the huge Harris Hills and drop down into Tarbert where we are staying the night. Our hostel is lovely. We are sharing a room with 2 mountain marathoners. The thought is quite awesome. The lady told us of the marque in town where caterers had been brought in to cook and sell wholesome filling food for the runners. Guess where we had tea, and there was a beer tent, real ale from Skye! Mr PB thought we fitted in well.

Skye beckons tomorrow but at least our room mates will be up early too!
