Life in a Northern Town

Leopoldskron Palace

Due to the terrible weather forecast we swapped our lakes and mountains tour for the Sound of Music tour - what a good decision that was!

This is the Leopoldskron Palace, which was used for the shots of the rear of the Von Trapp house. The front views were of a different house, necessitating all the scenes to be shot twice as the exteriors were different colours. It was such a fun tour, see the gazebo, and the church where Maria and Captain Von Trapp were wed in extras, plus a stunning lake view. Also a view of the mountain the Hollywood Von Trapps hiked across to Switzerland ( actually over 100 miles away) - they would’ve landed up in Germany over that particular mountain. In reality they took a train to Italy leaving all their possessions behind.

We ended the day hiking up to the abbey to stand at the gates like the Von Trapp children looking for Maria, then back to the hotel to watch another spectacular thunderstorm.

The rain has arrived this morning....
