Innovation

We had our usual monthly meeting today at Friends of Belair NP, and as it happened, it was a lass from the Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society, a.k.a. the Adelaide Showgrounds.

It's a coincidence that we are at the Showgrounds this morning for a vintage toy fair (don't ask - it's complicated).

It's a further coincidence that I took this image with my phone as we were waiting in a line that was several hundred people long. As an aside, it was 98 percent adults, very few children.  That tells you something.

The Showgrounds are very well known for their approach to sustainability.  For example they have 10,000 solar panels on their roof(s).;  No, there isn't an extra "0" by accident, it really is ten thousand.  These panels provide 40% of their electrical needs.  They also have a 1,000,000 litre water tank underneath one of the car-parks.

And the whole place is ringed by these very attractive planters, which are made of cast iron and are allowed to age naturally.  Filled with soil they weigh close to a quarter of a tonne, and can only be moved by the heaviest duty forklift.

Getting to the pointy end of this discussion, the planters are installed as anti-terrorist measures instead of bollards.

How about that!!!
