The First Day of Summer

Finally the wind has died down and we have the most beautiful warm day, my personal beginning of summer.  I walked the length of the beach barefoot this morning, splashing in the tide and just loving the world--the invigorating kelpy ocean smell, the soothing sound of the breaking waves, the treasures of rock and shell at my feet. I can't even remember the last time we were on the beach, and I don't know how that happens, how we forget this healing place so close to home.

As soon as I got my feet wet this morning, I knew it had to be hamburgers for dinner, and potato salad, a summer meal if there ever was one.
